Planning work resources using cycle diagrams
A visual plan of all complex processes at your fingertips
This combination of methods is called “flow construction”.
Flow construction implies dividing the construction process of an object into separate specialized work complexes — construction flows. Each flow is performed by a separate team or link, and the entire work complex is divided into several sections, also called sections, sections or pickets. Work teams have an invariable composition and evenly move from one type of work to another from one section to another. The first team performs the first process in the technological order, and the last one completes the work in accordance with the technology of work production.
To visually display the method of flow construction, the Soviet scientist M.S. Budnikov developed a new form of graph - a cyclogram or flow graph.
A cyclogram is a type of calendar schedule for the production of similar construction and installation works, depicting the development of the construction process in time and space.
The horizontal axis of the chart shows the calendar time scale, and the vertical axis shows the locations of the work. The inclined line shows the technological process or type of work and the movement of each team along the work front and from one section to another. Intersection of lines on the cyclogram is not allowed, otherwise the technology of work execution will be violated. Planning work using a cyclogram allows you to clearly distribute teams across work areas with the most efficient loading in time.

Sections for tracking work are usually allocated equal or multiple to each other (for example, 100 m long or one floor of a building, etc.). In such cases, the duration of the work becomes the pace of work. But the main principle of the schedule is still to avoid intersections.
The advantages of a cyclogram over a Gantt chart are obvious. The linear horizontal graph of a Gantt chart shows the duration of a specific task. A cyclogram allows you to see the execution of this operation broken down into measurable sections in parallel with another type of work.
