Augmented reality is one of the technologies with the greatest future prospects. And it will, in fact, be our daily bread in no time. This was the main conclusion of the meeting organised this morning by Asus , in collaboration with Europa Press , where augmented reality was put under the microscope from different points of view.
This event has acted as the “opening act” for the presentation in Spain of ZenFone AR , a new smartphone signed by Auss that is specifically designed to operate with advanced augmented and virtual reality systems such as Tango and Daydream.
The presentation of this gadget was preceded by a round table discussion attended by Emiliano Nicoloro , country product manager at Asus, Héctor Paz , CEO of Imascono, Mariano Martínez , director of Global Device Portfolio & Vendor Management at Telefónica, and Ausiàs Pomés , business consultant at Accenture Iberia.
According to Nicoloro, augmented reality has a function “more inherent to vertical markets such as education, tourism or sales”, while virtual reality is much more closely linked to the world of leisure.
For his part, Hector Paz is convinced that augmented reality is already bahrain phone number a reality . His company, Imascono, has developed several applications based on this technology, whose objective is “to be able to provide us with technological layers that give us the ability to know more and go faster.”
Paz says that augmented reality has moved “from superhero movies to our lives,” although he clarifies that hardware companies must do everything possible “so that people understand what we can do with this technology.”
Mariano Martínez, from Telefónica, acknowledges that the commitment to augmented and mixed reality devices has given rise to a “completely different scenario” , as there has been “an increase in both technological development and the level of investment”.
The Telefónica executive affirms that the implementation of augmented and mixed reality platforms will be a real challenge for Telefónica from a technical point of view and indicates that the first of these technologies “will be the evolution of computing.”
In his speech, Ausiàs Pomés focused on the practical applications of augmented reality developed by Accenture Iberia. “The industry should focus on developing devices that are autonomous, lighter in weight so that they are more comfortable to use and have greater social acceptance, and for this it is essential that their aesthetics are carefully considered,” Pomés stressed.
On the other hand, and speculating about the moment when augmented reality will finally become “mainstream”, Martínez believes that 2017 will be “the year in which the foundations of massive augmented reality will be laid”. In 2018, there will be more devices capable of working without cables and without dependence on another device, according to Martínez.
Pomés considers it of utmost importance to “reduce the costs” of the platforms necessary to use this type of content and is committed to the creation of “an ecosystem of applications that are attractive to the user”,
The speakers also stressed the importance of closer ties between augmented reality and society. Paz advocates for an “evangelization process” regarding this technology.
Finally, Nicoloro wanted to emphasize that Asus, as a manufacturer, will continue to be committed to augmented reality. ZenFone AR is, not in vain, the first firm step of the Taiwanese company into the world of augmented reality.
