Probability of a Link Being Clicked
The probability that a link will be clicked is a key factor in PageRank and is mentioned in Google's Reasonable Surfer patent (filed in 2004).

The original PageRank algorithm gave equal weight to the links on a page. However, this patent states that not all links are equally likely to be clicked: some are more likely to be clicked than others. Therefore, links must have different weights.

For example, links in the following locations are less likely to be clicked than links in prominent locations, so they should be given less weight.
